Our portfolio company, SPS, has announced two innovative new solar projects in South Africa that will help tackle the energy challenges facing the country.
SPS has acquired the rights to develop two five-megawatt solar plants in Malmesbury, Swartland. The energy generated at these two plants will be wheeled across the grid to customers of Energy Exchange, an energy trading company. Construction of the first phase is set to begin in July 2024, with completion expected by the beginning of May next year. The second phase will start in May 2025 and is projected to be completed within 12 months.
“This is a very exciting step forward for SPS,” said Mark Richards, Gridworks’ Interim co-CEO. “These projects will provide vital clean energy for businesses across the country and it is exciting to work with Energy Exchange in a rapidly evolving market. We’re delighted that SPS continues to increase energy security by increasing the generation capacity connected to the national grid.”
